Our Story

Dedicated Dentist was founded by Dr. Sonya White, DDS, a practicing dentist in Mobile, Alabama, who saw firsthand the devastating impact of untreated dental disease on low-income, uninsured, and underserved adults.

What began as a conviction, someone has to do something, became an organization. What started as a single day of free care has grown into a year-round mission: mobilizing volunteer dental professionals, securing community partnerships, and building the infrastructure to serve more patients, in more places, every single year.

Dedicated Day, our annual free clinic, is the culmination of 365 days of planning, fundraising, and preparation. It is one extraordinary day of care. But the mission never stops. Because Dedicated Dentist is 100% volunteer-driven with no salaries or facility costs, every dollar donated goes directly to patient care. This includes supplies, instruments, and operational expenses for Dedicated Day. What began as a single day in Mobile is now a proven, scalable model with a plan to expand across Alabama, bringing free dental care to underserved communities in 2 to 3 new cities each year.

Dr. Sonya White, DDS — Founder & Board Member

Dr. Sonya White is a practicing dentist and the founder of Dedicated Dentist. She owns Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Mobile, Alabama, where Dedicated Day is hosted each year. Her vision, that quality dental care should reach everyone, regardless of ability to pay, launched this organization and continues to drive its growth. Dr. White leads by example, volunteering her clinical skills at every Dedicated Day while managing the year-round work of planning, fundraising, and partnership-building that makes the event possible
